What is this place?

It is a place to show off YOUR Boy Scout and Order of the Arrow collections. See some some examples. It is becoming more of a place to get stuff and facilitate trading, though! See the bboard and need/trade lists to see why.

What problem does Patchlodge.com solve?

I noticed that a lot of folks spent a lot of time putting together their own galleries of images, and I thought that there should be a site that provided a super easy way to do this - and more. Patchlodge.com is a result of this, and the current set of features reflect the things I wanted to see. The sky is the limit, though.

What is this place NOT?

This is most definitely not another boring, one dimensional forum, created using one-size-fits-all software. It's not an auction site, nor is it trying to change the world of collecting. It is not stale or static - stiving to provide fresh and interesting features for members and visitors alike.

Do I need to sign up?

You only need to sign up if you want to upload/label/tag images of your items, but again this is THE major feature of the site. There are two faces of Patchlodge.com - the member side (for which you need an account) and the visitor side. The member side will generally see more advanced and powerful features. You do not need an account to look at galleries, search items, look at the items for trade, or to use the bulletin board (including posting!).

What are the benefits of membership?

  • Free static image hosting for your collection;
  • Easily create anonymous, private, or public galleries of items matching very specific criteria;
  • Create and publish your needs and items up for trade, providing an anonymous way for interested parties to contact you.
  • Static links to individual images that you may then pass on to whomever;
  • Easily create galleries for sharing your collection with others;
  • Everything is anonymous unless you make it not so;
  • Search others' items, and 'save' and track those items you're interested;
There are also users who use this service to catalog their expansive and valuable collections for insurance purpose. Which, while an unintended benefit, is still a compelling one!

Is there a cost for this?

Nope! If there ever are charges for use, there will only be minimal charges for features that help people make a lot of money.

Are sponsorships available?

YES!

Who maintains this site?

A person who received their Eagle Scout (1992), Vigil in 1993, served as a Lodge Chief, worked 3 years of summer camp (and many more years of winter camp), hiked Philmont twice, and attended the 1993 National Jamboree as the Council's sole contingent's SPL. He began collecting patches at his first Section Conclave, and has been hooked ever since.

What features are planned?

The sky is the limit. It suits my needs as is, but there's no telling what others might find cool and useful. So, feedback is crucial to its evolution as a useful tool. A lot of features facilitating this can be incorporated into the site.

New features are being added all of the time; for example, photo editing through the Picnik.com service has been integrated into the member section! And with the "web 2-dot-oh" thing going full tilt these days, there's not telling what kind of neat 3rd party services might be integrated.

How is this unlike other patch hosting sites?

It is super easy to upload and manage the galleries of your collection. More features are being added constantly that help you show off what you have for trade and what you need. Ultimately, this site's purpose is to help you build your collection and connect you to traders with similar interests in ways that are much more targeted and efficient that simple email listservs or one-size-fits-all forums.

What about technical support?

This site is maintained as a side project, for the benefit of the community, but technical assistance is available for those that need it.

How can I upload my collection and create my own galleries?

Just sign up. Signing up does not automatically create an account, but will initiate a basic screening process. Users will be contacted within a day or two of signing up. I am willing to help get anyone started if they're willing share photos of their collection with others.

The number of public galleries one may create is virtually unlimited, so this is a great way to show off your collection - even anonymously if you wish.
